*TUTORIAL* How to add a new map to UP 2.0
« on: January 31, 2010, 05:43:46 PM »
Updated for map installation into UP 2.01

Palembang is now in UP 2.01,but I will leave this here for the example

Palembang>
http://ultrapack.il2war.com/index.php/topic,1201.0.html

This is a self extracting .exe map, create a folder on your desktop and name it Palembang and then browse the installer to install into it rather than let it install itself into your game.

Open your folder that is on desktop after extraction and you will see a Mods folder and inside there is a MapMods folder and longside it a QMBPlus folder.

Locate your IL-2 folder and inside it find Files/maps

this is where you place you map folder,
there is a _Tex there for custom textures if any come with the map

Open in notepad the Palembang_all_ini.txt
select and copy the text inside and then in your Files/maps folder open your all.ini and paste the text in an appropriate location with in the all.ini

You may add the text to your list where-ever you like,at the top or in alphabetical order or any other way you would like.Just be careful when editing your list though as it can cause problems if not done correctly.

That is it for installing maps

The QMBPlus folder inside has a missions folder, drop this Missions folder into your root IL-2 folder and allow to overwrite and it will place the QMB missions for the map into il-2/Missions/Quick

If you run the QMB Mod then follow instructions for entering the text for the map and missions according to the readme of your QMB Mod.

Hello Boomer! I'm trying to follow your instructions installing a far superior version to the default Hawaii map: I can see there would possibly be some conflicts about some of the static objects or particularly about the airfields plates, but I cannot check them out since I cannot even see tc_hawaain_islands listed in FMB, and trying to load the missions I designed on that same map in my custom SAS install has not succeeded as yet.
I followed your instructions copying the tc_hawaain_islands folder and all others as well into Files/maps/ and _Tex etc. and added the proper string into the all.ini contained there, placing it between Tarawa and Thailand in the ****P**** section... I failed! I believe it should at least shows up in the list, but I cannot see it there; any hint would be appreciated!
Thanks.

Hello :)
Sorry I didn't notice your post  :blind:

Check your all.ini ,it is the list of names in the FMB
Make sure you do not have an all.ini in your MODS folder running and getting loaded first before the Files/maps/all.ini
As that would load the MODS folder one first and that would be the one the game uses.

Make your MODS folder into -MODS to deactivate it if it is being used, then load your game to check if the Files/maps/all.ini now shows the entry you made to it

The all.ini can have entries made ,with out even the map being installed
it is simply just a list to show a list in a drop down menu in the FMB GUI ,
and is being pointed to the FMB "load map" drop down list.

Maybe do a search of your IL-2 folder for "all.ini" ,
to see if you have more than one all.ini

MODS folder loads, then the Files folder and then the SFS Files load
What loads first is the one the game uses when there are duplicate files.
Even in the MODS folder ete everything is loaded in Numerical and Alphabetical order,
again what is loaded first is the file that the game uses when duplicate mods or files are present

Hope that helps ,it is something very simple causing the name not too show
Let me know how you make out, hope this helps a bit  :)

Hi Boomer!
I've remade a quick check of my UP201 install: I have in there 9 all.ini files!
Well, 7 of them have nothing to do with the all.ini maps, since they are located in Missions\Campaign, Users or Training.
My -Mods folder is disabled.
I added the tc_hawaain-islands line between Tarawa and Thailand in both of them: Files\maps and Ultr@Pack\maps, but still I cannot see it listed in FMB. I'm puzzled!

Well you should really only have one all.ini
if you run a mods folder then maybe two all.ini's
only advanced users would run extra maps in there JSGME

I suggest using the UP 2.01 Updater and getting your game back to just UP 2.01
Then read the ReadMe for the map your going to try and instal very carefully.

Sorry,I don't know what else to suggest other than running the update and trying again

Actually Boomer, I have no idea about this folder Ultr@Pack (maybe is there for the switcher to use it when choosing Up or HSFX?): in any case this is a fresh and plain UP2.0.1 install, and I've just added the Mods folder that now is disabled... Is the UP201 installing two maps folders, one in the Ultr@Pack and one in files? I'm perplex... :umnik:

Sorry guys, but as I was listening to your conversation I would like to ask Mrs Boomer If he can help me with the Friends Flying for France campaign.
In the third mission i had a loading failure with the message:mesh 3do/humans/paratroopers/russia/mono.sim not created, and I think this relates to the 352 Eng.channel Map, because the first two missions runned fine but the map was alps map.
I'm running UP2.1 always updated, 4.09m, and i already installed the "final version V2" of the map.
Can you help me?
Best regards
Gerson

@ Gerson

Try running S3TC Texture compression
see if that gets rid of the Paratrooper error :)

@ Sir_Galahad
I'm perplexed  :scratch_ones_head:
UP 2.01 is Ultrapack ?

If you are just running UP 2.01
and have your -MODS folder -Minused out

Then leave HSFX alone,do not switch out of UP 2.01 or you'll be running HSFX

Install map folder into>
Files/maps

Install textures accordingly into>
Files/maps/_Tex

Now installing objects is a whole another couple paragraphs of writing

You need to know how to do this stuff to be installing Mods and objects ete ete
I can't begin to describe how to install objects into your game right now

You need to understand how to install object mods, whether into your Files folder or into your Mods folder the file and folder structure is so similar it should be fairly easy to follow.

Most do not like installing into the Files folder,so the run a MODS folder
Install maps into MODS folder if you like, but then again it is usually throughly explained in the ReadMe
of the map you downloaded.

Some copy the required folders from Files into there MODS folder,
and then use those as a base to install maps ,object mods, aircraft into

You must be able to understand the basics of installing some of these things,
and what folders are necessarily for running and adding Mods to your MODS folder then.

MODS/MapMods/Maps
that is the folder structure needed for installing maps into a MODS folder
You would need an all.ini in > MODS/MapMods/Maps/all.ini

Textures go into >
MODS/MapMods/Maps/_Tex

This is about all I can think of describing, pretty much everything else depnds on the ReadMe of what you have you are installing.

I personally find the ReadMe's of maps more than enough info to install a map,
with UP 2.01 you just can install into Files/maps if you like or the old way in the MODS folder

Hopefully this helps clear something up for you :)

My texture compression was set to 0 in the confi.in.
Then I went to the set up.exe and activated S#TC compression as you sad and the mission loaded correctly
Thank you very much and sorry for the misinformation

Oh excellent to here Gerson, good show
I always hated that Paratrooper error too

@ Sir_Galahad
I downloaded this Tc Hawiian map,
it should be very easy to install into UP 2.01

It is all foldered up in the required folder structure

The map archive when extracted and opened,
you get a MODS folder and the "install readme"

A) Install instructions Map

1)  Drop the MODS folder from the map folder into your il2 main folder.

2) Add this line    tc_hawaain-islands tc_hawaain-islands/load.ini
to your all.ini file, located here        /MODS/MapMods/Maps

OK,drag and drop the MODS folder to your IL-2 folder and instantly it will create the folder structure for you,
MODS/MapMods/Maps

Now go into Files/maps and copy the all.ini that is there and paste it into>
MODS/MapMods/Maps

so it look like this
MODS/MapMods/Maps/all.ini

add the all.ini entry to this all.ini and run your MODS folder

Your map should be in the list in FMB and should load,
if you can not save a mission, then you would need to add the extra objects

I will look at them, now I have them and will post later on how I installed them.
I followed above instructions and they worked for me.

ps: I just checked saving a mission on tc_Hawaii and the objects are needed to be installed,
in order to be able to save a mission on this map.

Right so Boomer: I had just finished writing the message below while you sent yours. I believe the point is to have the all.ini in the Mods to match that in Files, while all the rest should be added to Mods.

BTW I've just finished flying a P-51 in FSX from Ford Island and landed at the airport in the middle of the island: it's funny to compare what happened in some 60 odd years!  :o The tc map still looks so much better!
;)
Most do not like installing into the Files folder,so the run a MODS folder
Some copy the required folders from Files into there MODS folder,

Hopefully this helps clear something up for you :)

Boomer, thanks for your answers: as I wrote, I have plenty of Mods manually installed and working in my SAS version: what is eluding me at this moment is that the IL-2\SAS\Files dir is almost unused, since I have everything in Mods, and I know this will take priority on anything else (Mods->Files->SFS). I tell you what: I'll try to move the all.ini file from the Files\maps to the Mods\MapMods\Maps and check if by doing this I'll load all the maps from the Files dir, then I'll add (actually copy from IL-2_SAS) the tc_hawaain_islands in the Mods, add the line to the all.ini and see if that works. Using the console in the FMB I can always check if something is missing, and add that too in the Mods.
I'll let you know.
Cheers
