Hello and gratulations


UP 3.0 promises a lot - I think I like it.

But before I sing a praise comes little criticism.



The crimea maps

There was a time, in UP 2.0 and 2.01, the extremely inappropriate airfield in the southwest of Sevastopol  had been replaced by an very well placed and nice made field.

This field (UP 2.01 Crimea Map Autumn / Mud / Summer / Winter at location AG 4) is noted in many historical maps.

Where the field is moved?

UP 3.0 RC only shows the original IL-2 field and location (Crimea maps, all seasons, location AH 4).

Is this the 1946 Sevastopol International Airport???



And: Oh no! The winter scenario in crimea was, of course, a lot of better and more realistic in UP 2.01. Now it looks like a Siberian winter. With very green trees.


The Caucasian maps

What a great map. The summer map. The winter map also lets feel to fly in the polar circle.

And what happend with Mount Elbrus? Someone has cut off the caracteristical peaks.

Or is this a plateau for a high altitude airfield?

As you can see,
they are the same maps we used in UP 3.0 as what we used in UP 2.01
AFAIK- there are no other repainted versions of Crimea to use
These are all repaints by LAL La-Rone
So if for some reason an airfield has changed ,it must have been do to some update that is unknown to me
Do you have a link to an update for this map ?

Most Beta testers and others have said they would rather have LAL Crimea repaints over any other repaints of Crimea,
we did try some other repaints, but it was LAL La-Rones repaints that were wanted,so there the ones we used


About the Caucasus map:
Not sure really,you would need to bring it up with who made the map I guess
Ask him what happened to Mount Elbrus

I downloaded from over at SAS

So I am sure any map questions could be brought up over at SAS in the appropriate map thread
Which the question then could be answered by those who have actually made the map

We just install them into UP 3.0
and then try to clean the map files up and fix any errors and or warnings that show in the log.lst

I think, I am using the same Crimea maps.

But look at the shoots.

In UP2.01, updated 12.5.2011, the Crimea Winter map shows as follow



In UP3.0 the Crimea Winter map looks quite different, it looks very arctic.






Okay, is that important?

I think, yes.

UP2.0 map shows a moderate winter at the 45th latitude and Crimea in WWII, was a important location for both the Sowiets and the Germans.
 

And UP3.0?
The Winter Impression on the second picture, i believe, comments it self.


On this images You also can see the designs and locations of the airfields.

UP2.0 map shows that it was created with a lot of research.
UP3.0 map looks like a copy of the IL-2 map, added only in the 70th degree of latitude.

Not sure why Crimea is so white now,there has been many many changes though for UP 3.0
so it is hard to keep track of every single change on ever map

Maybe Crimea just had a hell of a snow storm
