Author Topic: Nothing but problems with 3.0 (Read 1398 times)

The copy I started with was version 4.08m downloaded from Direct2Drive. I then installed the megapatch As I thought it was cumulative and the game was working as version 4.10.1m

I then installed the base 3.0 and then straight to RC4, which I also thought was cumulative

Didn't work, couldn't get the mod or stock game to run.

I trashed that and redownloaded from D2D to make sure I had a clean copy with no mods that I had forgotten about. I then repeated everything.

I could fly the stock game, but when I tried to start 3.0 the game screen would flash on for a second and go right back to desktop.

I started over and this time I had it working, I could switch from 4.10.1m to UP3.0 with the JSGME mod enabler and the selector screen and everything was fine for a while.

Then suddenly without me making any more changes, I could no longer start 4.10.1m
UP3.0 still worked.

I had saved back up copies of everything I did along the way so I trashed this one, loaded the back up and could once again fly both 4.10 and UP3....for awhile, then I lost 4.10.1m again.

This time I said to heck with it, 3.0 works, I can always fly the stock game from another install.

Then suddenly, again without me making any changes, I lost my escape button function, couldn't refly or anything.

So I trashed this one too and started over.

This time I decided to patch it incrementally.

Used 4.08m, installed the D2D patch, upgraded to 4.09m and then the 4.10.1m mega patch. Then 3.0 base, then RC2, RC3 and finally RC4.

Now I can run UP3.0, but I have no idea how long this will stay working, and I still can't run the stock game.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

It seems you forgot patch 4.101 installation after 4.10...

Is that not included in the mega patch? I edited my post to reflect that I did have 4.10.1m after the mega patch.

but you can try the original patches too, maybe there was something wrong with the big download...

Well, I forget to mention that I re-downloaded everything at least once along the way.

Would you suspect the big 3.0 torrent as the one that might be corrupted?

btw. RC4 isnt cumulative...so normally you have a working installation, after you doing it step by step (UP3RC1, RC2, RC3 and RC4), like you have done at least...

D2D told its 4.08, but did you checked this in game? the vanilla DVD IL2 1946 version is 4.07m and you need the m-patches (that means 4.09m and so on)
the m stands for merged
but i know there are also other patch versions outta there

This patch is Cumulative and it contains All the previous 2, the RC2 and RC3.

No matter, it didn't work incrementally either, so I'm leaning toward the big download as being the problem.

Wish i could know for sure before I go to all that trouble AGAIN.

The download from D2D is 4.08m, confirmed on the splash screen.

That is downloading each of 14 files correct?

yep you need all 14 parts and unpack them together at the end...simple with the *.exe file

Ah well, didn't work correctly either way so something else must be wrong.

Just wish I could pinpoint it so I don't have to blindly start over again, not knowing if all my time will again be wasted.

Right now it's just a shot in the dark.

I would pm SAS~CirX and ask him if that Direct2Drive patch makes it so you can't play the stock game after it is applied.

For what it's worth, I see nothing that your doing wrong. I just checked M4Today and the megapatch says it includes all the stock game patches 4.08m-4.10.1m. So if you start out with 4.08m and apply the patch, the 4.08m files just get overridden by the megapatch. I guess you could have corrupt files somewhere. I would clean up your registry from all this installing and re-installing. You say you have it running, but it crashes. Maybe check all of your drivers for corruption too. Sound, graphics. Do any weird things happen in any other programs?

I've had no other problems with any other games or programs except this one.

The game actually does run, but I have two problems.

One is that I can no longer run the stock game, even after disabling 3.0 in the JSGME mod enabler and making the correct choices on the selector screen. It won't start at all

Two is just instability of some sort. It works for a while, I can switch between the two versions then it suddenly stops and as stated above, I can only use the 3.0 version. Also the strange problem of suddenly losing function of the "escape" key.

These came out of the blue without me making any changes in the files.

I'll pm CirX. As for cleaning up my registry, I really have no idea how to do that.

There's a freeware programs called CCleaner that will clean the registry.

I had another thought. I remember somewhere in UP readme, they told us to make backup copies of some dll files. But they didn't tell us why. I did this, but have not needed to use them. Maybe this is related to your problems? Anyway, the dlls I backed up are.

I don't know, I guess I missed that part in the read me, sure would be nice to find out I just need to overwrite a file somewhere.

Do you remember if these files were supposed to be backed up from 4.10.1m, prior to installing the base 3.0 mod?

Thanks, I have a unmodded copy of 4.10.1m. I could always copy those files from there and overwrite the ones in the current install after backing those up too of course.

yep, might as well try that. my memory isn't so good on this, but i think I backed them up prior to installing the 3.0 modpack.

I do remember in the older version up2.01 they had that safe.dll mod for people whose game would crash or not load all the way. so maybe it is a carryover issue from the older modpack.

Hi blakjack,

do this:

wipe out all installed (but not downloaded) content of Il2. After that:

Reinstall "Il2 1946".
Install patch 4.08
Install patch 4.09
Install patch 4.10
Install patch 4.10.1 (is not included in patch 4.10 or UP 3!!!)
Install Ultra Pack 3.0 RC
Install UP 3 RC2
Install UP 3 RC3
Install UP 3 RC4

READY ^_^

You should install exactly in this proper sequence to avoid any issues. If you install patch 4.10.1 after Ultra Pack 3, it can making you trouble like ~NB~ EAGLE called attention to. If you will have installed in this sequence, your installation will work as sure as the sky is blue when no clouds on.

(If not already done, make different partitions on your hard disk drive and install it not on letter "C:/".)
