UP 3 & DCG Problem
« on: August 18, 2011, 10:18:22 PM »
Since I got Up 3 and updated it, I can't generate campaigns through Dynamic campaign generator anymore and after finishing the first mission I got error "invalid integer...." then I got crash to the desktop , Anyone have an explanation or I'll get back to up 2

It appears they have given up on coops due to a coding problem that is very low priority to find.

Is this true?  DCG and UP3.0 aren't working together?  This would be awful as my squad flies exclusively DCG campaigns.  Can anyone else confirm or deny this?  And is there no work around?

Me and my squad fly DCG too. I can confirm you: DCG is not working with UP. 3.0. Moreover, I don't see any interest to solve this problem by UP staff. They aren't interested in coops (online or not, with two sides or one). It's a pity.

The good new is that SAS is advancing in this compatibility through DBW. In fact, it seems that is working quite well just now.

We (my squad) have left UP 3.0 by this. We fly with UP. 2.01 (DCG friendly) and DBW (looking at the future). Remember, DBW wouldn't be possible without UP. 3.0

What is DBW?  I'll have to check that out.  Where can I find it?

Just to be clear, it is not only DCG that is affected by this problem but all third party dynamic campaign software based on coops.  I understand it is frustrating to UP3 developers to find and correct the coding problem, i.e., needle in a hay stack sort of thing.    These software products, however, represent thousands of hours of coding that UP3 renders useless.  For UP to say the MDS does all the same things as coops and therefore coops aren't needed any more misses the point.  It takes away an existing venue that many pilots and squads flew in.  To re-establish these campaigns again based on MDS would take additional hundreds if not thousands of hours to develop.  At this stage I doubt it will happen.  Speaking for VR, I know it won't happen and unless the coops are corrected, it permanently kills our on-line campaign (based on UP2.01) which attracted over 800 pilots.

So what is EXACTLY the problem? Give some log or errorlogs to solve what is wrong.

If You just say 'Its not working!' it is very hard to do something to correct things. Me myself know very little of DGC, so I cant undestand a bit of Your complaints.

Give UP Staff something to work with.

They are aware of this time ago. Maybe you should read more before writting.

What I undestand is that the dogfight server will do the same as a coop server, you can select your position, you can fly with a squad of AI, etc.
But we will not need to wait for the others, because a pilot can assume an AI's position at any time.
So, a coop mission is suposed to work as a dogfight mission because we can assume an AI's position just like in a coop mission.
If there is a problem with the log file for DCG, it will be fixed.
But now, UP3 is only a RC version, it's like a beta version, so it's expected a lot of bugs.
I tryed to assume an AI's positon, but I only can assume the gunners, not the pilot position, I think this will be fixed too.

The problem I am referring to is the eventlog.  Because it contains errors, anything based on it will be incorrect, such as the DCG or other dynamic campaign software.  Again, saying a dogfight server will do the same thing as a coop misses the point.  Read post above.

So, the only problem is about the log file generated by the dogfight server. Is that right?

No. The log file generated by game, later whatever mission. DCG has to read the log file to generate the next mission in campaign. In log it finds what it needs. Log file writting is altered by UP3.0.

If there is a problem with the log file for DCG, it will be fixed.

I would like to know the basis of your comment.  This does not align with what was stated by UP.  UP said the problem was extremely difficult to find and that it had a very low priority.  In addition, it was said that the MDS allows everything a coops does, maybe even better, so basically why bother fixing it.  I am trying to answer the "why" with my post above.  Not fixing it shuts down a whole venue of flying, campaigns that will not be redone with MDS.  That is the point being missed.

I love what UP has done to extend the use of IL2, I just think it is a shame to have to give up coops.  They do serve a very important purpose.

I think the problem with eventlog of the coop server code will not be fixed because we don't need the coop server anymore.
Everything that the coop code can do will be in the dogfight server code.
So, when all the bugs are fixed, we can just start a dogfight server but with the coop mission or campaign.
The server will act as a coop server and the eventlog is already working for the dogfight server. ;)

That's why I'm talking about the dogfight server and so on, because there are two codes but the eventlog of the dogfight server is already working and we will not need the coop server code to be fixed.
We will start a dogfight server with a coop mission.

This is very difficult to explain in English to me, sorry mates.

I think you aren't understanding us. There are hundreds of DGen and DCG campaigns. We don't want to start a coop mission in a dogfight server. We want campaigns (dynamic ones) like DCG. You cannot reproduce them with any dogfight server. Coop server and dynamic campaign is not the same. You can fly coops in dogfight ones, but you cannot create dynamic campaigns there.

It's the same. My squad (and other ones) have given up the hope in UP.3.

Yes, you can.
If the DCG can read the eventlog, so, it can generate the next mission.
My friends already made a dogfight campaign with DCG, but the missions are in dogfight standards, they are not coop missions.
The only thing is that the DCG they are using is for the stock IL-2, so DCG only generates missions with stock airplanes and vehicles.
The missions are not too good because we are noobies in DCG configurations.
There is too much AIs and too few ground units.
Maybe the version of DCG from SAS can generate missions with all new air and ground units.

But, for now, is better to wait because UP3 is RC version yet and we can't fly coop campaigns yet.

It's easy to add new modded planes and loadouts to DCG. We fly DCG with modded planes and maps for two years:

http://patrulla-azul.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=5

Moreover, there are authors who create DCG campaings with all modded inside, like Lonestar, for example.

If the DCG can read the eventlog, so, it can generate the next mission.

DCG could read eventlog until UP 3. Nowadys, cannot do it correctly.

Until now, mods like UP had added things to game (planes, effects, loadouts, maps...). But, by first time, we will lose any important feature with UP 3 if you don't support dynamic campaign generators like DCG.
