Game won't start - I've looked at the other threads - no go :(

I did post this in a similar thread but I thought it best to move it to one of my own. The game just won't start since installing UP.

Just reinstalled IL-2 '46 + UP to play on WoP servers.
It worked ok at the default Ubisoft location at version 4.10.1 (My backup 4.10.1 still worls ok)

I created the C:\IL-2\UP3\ folder as recommended then dragged the entire contents of folder \Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\ to the C:\IL-2\UP3\ folder. (Note that I did not include the folder \IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\ although I have since created that under \UP3\ and moved everything there but still it wouldn't start.) I have redirected my desktop icon to the new location.

I downloaded all UPs except #4 which I already had, dated Sept 2011 so it includes that file that was originally omitted.
I followed WoP's and UP's instructions to the letter but the game won't start after installing basic UP_3.0RC or after installing all of UP_3.0RC2, 3 and 4. 

With all mods de-selected I started fom desktop icon, CD is in and searched, il2fb.exe appears briefly in Task Manager and under Processes then disappears. With basic UP3 enabled in JSGME I start from desktop, CD is not searched, startup panel appears, I see the IL2fb.exe in Task Manager (while the Start IL-2 panel is open). If I select 512Mb RAM (it shouts at me of I try to set 2Gb as I have 6Gb), no other options selected (although I have tried witrh TrackIR enabled) and when I click on Start IL-2 a file named ~~Kan.sas appears briefly in Task Manager then disappears.

I have looked through all the other posts on this but found no solution.
I have tried various memory settings, various/none options and all game selections on the UP startup panel. With JSGME "All optiones removed" I don't of course get the startup panel, the cursor just whirls and stops.

Any ideas why it won't start?

The cause of the problem is in the installation instructions. I am running Windows 7 as Administrator but I still had some file replacement problems. Running as Administrator didn't help either. If you are in the same boat this may help......

The UP_3.0-RC instructions tell you to back up 4 .dll files. I did that by making a copy of each named xxxxx_bak.dll, leaving the originals in the folder, in the first install and the UPRC installer couldn't create the replacements. So I opened the appropriate UP_3.0-RC archive file with 7-zip and dragged them out to replace the originals which worked ok. That also happened with the jsgme il2fb.exe with the subsequent installers 2, 3 and 4. As you know the game wouldn't run.

The instructions should say Rename those .dll files (don't leave the originals in there). Also once UP_3.0-RC is installed have the /jsgmemods/#UP#_Enable_UP3.0/ folder open so you can rename the il2fb.exe to il2fb_RC.exe and later il2fb_RC2.exe, il2fb_RC3.exe as you install each mod i.e. don't leave the il2fb.exe named like that in the folder, the installer can't replace them.

All runs ok now in vanilla or with UP3/DOF selected.

If you run the installer as admin you should be fine in Win 7.
I had no such trouble with my Win7.
