UP Project Needs your Participation.

Greetings to the IL2 community  :)

As most of you probably know, Ultrapack has been around for well over 4 years & we feel that it's time to breath some fresh air into a project. That has matured up to the stage where it has evolved to be the most widespread Modded version of IL2. Possessing unique features like the Moving Dogfight-Server by Zuti. The smooth integration of SAS Projects,  by the SAS Team, such as The Jet Era, the new memory compatible with the stock game's format by Storebror. The SFS archives, thanks to Lutz, with whom I had an amazing decoding-deciphering-analysing and head banging trip, that lasted for several months :).

Obviously with all these unique features, Ultrapacks version cannot be considered just "another modded version" of the game we all love.

MDS brings a whole new dimension to IL2, with...
1) Rearm, refuel & repair. Not only can you rearm, refuel, repair & refly, if you make it back to base & manage to refuel, rearm & repair, your score will be added to, when an enemy aircraft you damaged does not make it back to base.
2) The Resource management feature, which makes it possible to have ammo, fuel & repair facility's, supplied by land, sea & air.
3)Alternative air base's, which can be placed almost anywhere, including sea bases.
4)Base capture by armour, ships & air(paratroopers).

QUALITY : We will fix existing issues, before we add any more content. Existing issues have been a very hard lesson for us, regarding the importance of Quality over Quantity.

Stability : Online stability and performance have always been important to Ultrapack. To this end, our goal is that Ultrapack will be rock stable, even after hours of online play.

Playability : Ultrapack has always prioritised smooth online game play. That's why we will always try to balance performance with visual effects.
 
Security : Online game play also requires security and to this end, we have not only maintained the stock game security checks, but have also implemented our own.

All of the above are not entirely new and are all part of our strategy since we started the Ultrapack project.
Now it's time to move Ultrapack outside of the square :)

After our stable release we will start implementing our new project. A project that will give IL2 many more years of pleasure to us all. Our vision includes the following...

    • A dogfight environment running 24/7 with no, or very limited human intervention.
    • A dogfight server environment that will include : AI aircraft, Dynamic AI triggers, Dynamic weather, New AI Visibility through clouds, moving front lines, AI scouts(reconnaissance), ships radar, moving ground forces, resource management & an updated flight engine.
    • The dogfight server will accept input from a web page(Apache & php) that will handle a players registration process and data. The data will be in text(ASCII) files(flat) or in a mySQL database. The player will receive a personalized profile and categorized as Blue or Red. Then when the player enters a dogfight server, the player will automatically be assigned a specific briefing screen & not be able to see the enemy briefing screen, or join the enemy side. Besides the players username an IP identification will also be implemented.
    • The web page of the online war will refresh dynamically and display the front lines at specific time intervals. The same will be applied to new registrations.

    I think that playing online with/against AI planes is gash !

    Sorry to inform you but they are already in since >2 years ago ;) When you play it you'll see how interest it is but please stay on subject :)

    Need some clarification here:

    Will there be a charge for the online 24/7 server access?
    Will there be a limit to how many live pilots can get onto this server?
    Will you be able to choose between red or blue team?
    Will all aircraft be available in each team or just the historically correct parings?
    Will bombers and bomber missions be a part of the online 24/7 server play?
    Will naval mission be part of the online24/7 play?


    What you are proposing sounds very much like the "Warbirds" sim which my squadron left over 3 years ago with no intention of ever looking back for various reasons but most importantly it was/is nothing more than a free-for-all environment and had little or nothing to do with historical missions or WWII.  It was/is almost exclusively for lone-wolf fighter pilots who love to furball in the most capable fighter planes and some low altitude strike activity to turn the map to all red or all blue.  That is okay if you are into that but the game has far more potential and capabilities than just furballing and capture the flag.  Most of the game's other features where nothing more than interesting things to do off-line.

    Please tell me that is NOT the direction you are taking UP. I am hoping that I misread or completely misunderstood your meaning [quite a possibility at my age].

    Let me answer to these questions and clarify more if possible :

    Will there be a charge for the online 24/7 server access?-------NO!!?

    Will there be a limit to how many live pilots can get onto this server?--------Depents on server capabilities

    Will you be able to choose between red or blue team?-------------yes you will choose side initially, when you will register to play at the web site (apache &php),  but you can't just swap between sides during the campaigns. 

    Will all aircraft be available in each team or just the historically correct parings?--------depents on the person who will build the mission(s) using MDS tool. Personally I'm  pretty much sure that we stick to as much historical accuracy as possible. Αfter all , historical accuracy was always  the driving force behind every UP project.

    Will bombers and bomber missions be a part of the online 24/7 server play?---------depents on the person(s) who will build the mission(s) using MDS tool and of course the mission layout itshelf

    Will naval mission be part of the online24/7 play?-------------------depents on the person(s) who will build the mission(s) using MDS tool and of course the mission layout itshelf.

    To add some furthere more to above .....
    I think you missunderstood the initial StG77_HadeS's post. Our goal is to develop the tool , neccesery to inspired MDS mission makers and Online Server Admins,  to have (if they choose to adapt this tool) online wars based on MDS unique resources handling features, running 24/7 with minimum human intervention. Those on-line wars adresses to more dedicated online pilots , more in favor to mission tasks rather than "furball" dogfighting.

    My fellow StG77_mk108 summed up pretty nicely. Our goal is to extend UP and IL2 and offer the means to the DF Server admins Or to the On-Line squadrons which want to host a DF Server or make an on-line war to have the Means to do it. Our goal is to Integrated IL2 with UP into a complete DF Server/Campaign/On-Line war environment.

    Now I understand. Sorry for any heart-burn which my post may have inspired.

    I understood that UP was going to sponsor a server for online flying with those attributes and NOT offer the program to individuals/squadrons.  I hope that clarifies my questions.

    Yes, but with no support meaning that the user will be responsible for the asdditional addons he will put. The reason is simple: We cannot make UP compatible with 1000s of different addons out there and make it stable also.

    AI planes are not put on a dogfight server by Ultrapack.
    AI aircraft are included in missions by mission builders & whoever is running a dogfight server, chooses the missions they run on their server, not Ultrapack  ;)

    I actually agree with you & I also think that having AI aircraft in a mission, flying around aimlessly just to provide targets for  players, is a bit naff.
    But unfortunately for those using 4.11.1(etc), that's about all they can do, as the MDS they use is very basic.
    However Ultrapack 3 & Zuti's MDS 1.2, opens up a whole new world of possibilities, with base capture, resource management, alternative airfields etc.

    Also by using IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 as the base version, Ultrapack has a huge advantage over CoD(even without Zuti's MDS), because CoD Is so resource hungry :o

    Ultrapack can run larger, more complicated & therefore more immersive missions than CoD, because it is less demanding on your system.
    Proving that less can be more  :D
