What is DF server?

Hello, I know a lot of people are on the DF server and not HyperLobby, and if it's good, I'll download it with the new stable UP3, but I want to what the DF client is.  My questions are: Can you still play offline and on HL if you want to; if so, is everything set up the same way; and finally, if you add a server is it on ZUTI's computer or yours?  Thanks in advance for the help!!

From what I read you´re mixing up everything and none of your assumptions are correct,so i don´t know where I should start to explain.

Yes, there seem to be a lot of complete  misunderstandings.

I know a lot of people are on the DF server and not HyperLobby

Most of the Servers in HL are actually Dogfight and Dedicated Servers.
Only Coops are non-dedicated.

I want to what the DF client is

It is the UP3 Version of a dedicated dogfight server. It is not a game version you can actually use to play the game yourself, because it lacks all the graphical output. It's just a DOS-Box of the game. You and others can than connect to this dedicated server.

Just wanted to know if I would have to open up my network on the DF like HL

I am not sure about 'opening the network' for HL, but if you want to set up a dedicated dogfight server you have to open the corresponding ports in your router. Otherwise nobody will be able to connect to your server.
I don't think this is a big threat to your security.

That is mainly due nonunderstandable questions:

Players can join a server via IP, connecting ingame, so they don't need hyperlobby, to connect and thereby are not listed on hyperlobby.

I would interpret the term DF client as a player hosting with his own game. But that all depends on where you have picked up these words and in what context they stand. Without knowing that it is unexplainable, really.

If you want people to connect to you machine, no matter if you run a dedicated server or if you host via your client game you need to open ports
