Boost you Server's Performance! For Linux and Windows Servers!
« on: December 02, 2009, 08:47:04 PM »
Hello guys! :)

I made the following versions of Dog Fight Server executable. They can utilize more memory and boost server's performance, especially when ZUTI's MDS is used. The original memory max limit was 256MB.
The 1 GB version is recommended for DF Servers with 1.5GB of memory and higher.
The 1.2 GB version of executable is recommended for DF servers having 2 GBs or more memory.

Please test them and post your feedback. Don't forget to backup your il2fb.exe and il2server.exe before you replace them.

1.2 GB Version:RECOMMENDED

1 GB Version:
[attachurl=1]

IMPORTANT:
The Previous 1.5GB & 1.25GB versions were unstable, so they have been removed. The 1.2GB and 1 GB version are the only stable ones right now

UKDed3_MDF, 87.102.61.11:21000, is using the 1gb version, the server boots quickly and the missions load more quickly than before. We are suffering very few lags less than with UI1.2 and i`d even say less than the vanilla 4.09m. Thx hades. CRT is 0 btw.

Good to know m8! :thumb:

I am so glad that the 1GB exe versions increased performance! Especially when you say that the Modded UP with these executables performs even better than the "vanilla" 4.09m ! And with ZUTI' MDS enabled! On-line gaming was and it still is our first priority.

P.S.
And in the patch next week the UP servers will be even more secure than the Vanilla ones, ;)

Hi modding Folks,
i would like to thx all the modders all over this place, for their good work!
I run both versions on my crate( HSFX4.0 & UP 1.8 full).
Because of longer loading times, I figured to put it in the UP 1.8 full-version.
I installed the 1GB version and back-ed-up my orginal il.exe and nothing happens! I mean, it doesn´t start at all!
What did I wrong?:bash:

When I put my orginal il.exe in, everything is fine.

The exe is the il2fb.exe and it is intended for use with the Dog Fight server. Do you have a dog fight server or you try to use it in your "client" game ?

I mean it is only for use with Dog fight version and not the regular one ;)

So you cannot use it, :)

Thank Hades, I'm using 1GB version and solved all the problems of crashes and LAG on my server. But it does not support a larger number of AIs in the missions. I hope to correct the 1.5GB version, so I can test it.

Windows 7 x64 + 2G ram.
only zuti enabled.

I made a 1.25 GB executable.
Could you please try these and report back? Its 5 times more the amount of max memory that the vanilla DF Server uses.

:thumb: I will test it with the map of Korea, where the performance falls far on my server, perhaps to get to be a large map.

I report the results soon. Thanks again  ;)

1GB version seems to work fine on our server. Out of curiosity, is there any plan to create an a client-side version somewhere down the line? Could be useful in solving some of the crashes that occur when in FMB on a very large map with lots of objects and flights.

Ok to summarize: The 1.25GB Version is the MAX i can push in memory usage without any errors. So Emil you said it is OK ? Thats Great News! :thumb:

About the client side: I tried to do it, but i had some strange issues regarding graphics. When UP's last patch will be out, i'll try once again for Client .exe

Update:

The 1.25 GB version seems to be OK. It is faster than the 1GB and the crt=2 works fine, :)
And fort the client version: When you try to connect in multi-player, you CTD... :( So maybe it cannot be done for the client il2fb.exe

:thumb: 1.25GB is working fine on my server, running Windows 7 x64 + 2GB ram.
I added more AI in the missions and everything went well.
On large maps, (test with the map of Korea), does not support large numbers of AIs, but it is enough for a smooth operation.

Thank you!  :D

Hades,

I found this post from Zoltan rnzoli on SEOW forum on a client side modified IL2FB.exe to run on 2gb of RAM:

If there is a suspicion that other maps also need extra large memory block for a 2-hour mission, the following simple test can be done:
1. Load a heavy mission on that map.
2. Start it and leave it running with AI aircraft only (no humans needed)
3. Periodically, e.g., every 15 minutes enter >GC into the chat line
4. In case the "total" value is nearing 100MB, the total IL-2 freeze is likely to occur due to hitting its own self-restraint limit. The other maps I tested can play around 50-80MB with no trouble at all, some shorter missions even stay in the low 25-50MB range.

It is hard to say, whether this is a memory leak fault or not. Guadalcanal is a large map, and I have seen memory reduction on other maps, as objects were being gradually removed (crashed, landed etc.) over time. So having a workaround is good enough for me, I don't want to chase the developers with this, especially when they solely focus on SoW:BoB nowadays.

Here's a link to the file:

http://petr.servegame.org/extplorer

File is Zolatan IL2fb.exe.  I've tested this modified client IL2FB.exe and i works great!  I haven't had a lockup and much smoother game play the past 2 Forgotten skies missions Ive run on.  Prior to it, I had several freezes and one total lockup.  The only problem is, it does not support 6DOF.
